Melissa Marmo is Firefly Tutors January 2022 Tutor of the Month. She lives in Loma Linda, CA and has been tutoring with Firefly Tutors for almost two years. Melissa loves meeting and building relationships with new students and their families.

Melissa tutors math, science, Spanish, writing, and supplemental work such as handwriting and spelling. Her favorite subject is ELA (English Language Arts).

Melissa’s favorite tip for students is that their first try does not need to be perfect. Always practicing and learning is important. Her proudest moment as a tutor is teaching the student how to master sight words and early reading.

Melissa shared her favorite memory with one of her students. “A favorite memory is when one of my students was very excited to take on a text-evidence close reading ELA activity. He is only in 2nd grade, and he did wonderful on this third grade supplemental task. He loved being challenged and learning a new skill.”

In her free time, Melissa loves to spend time with family, try new recipes and food, travel with their labrador retriever, and watch Star Wars and Harry Potter with her husband.

Three interesting facts about Melissa. She participated in American Ninja Warrior and The Price is Right that aired on TV. Before college, she taught English at an orphanage in Thailand. She loves attending church on the weekends.
